CrossKeys Adds New Alcatel Network Node to Its Element Management Portfolio
KANATA, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1999-- CROSSKEYS(NASDAQ:CKEY - news; TSE:CKY. - news)

The fifth member of Alcatel's switch family for CrossKeys support -- the 1631SX SMC -- is the industry's most versatile wideband digital cross-connect.

CrossKeys Systems Corporation (Nasdaq: CKEY - news; TSE: CKY - news) today announced that it has added Alcatel's 1631SX SMC (Standard Matrix Configuration) digital cross-connect switch as the newest member of the growing family of Alcatel products supported by CrossKeys. The Alcatel 1631SX SMC is the fifth member of Alcatel's narrow and wideband products to be supported by CrossKeys CrossControl(tm) portfolio of multi-vendor products.

``CrossKeys relationship with Alcatel on this and previous development programs has proven to be very successful in addressing specific customer needs,' says Susan Hackman, Director of Cross-Connect Product Line Management, Alcatel. ``The addition of the Alcatel 1631SX SMC digital cross connect to the CrossControl portfolio is further evidence of our combined commitment to meeting customer network management requirements.'

A CrossKeys-enabled network provides seamless integration between different vendors and technologies in a multi-vendor network. This benefits service providers and their customers in many ways. Costs associated with network management decrease and service offerings are enhanced because the service provider can use a single, integrated system for seamless, end-to-end connectivity over the entire network. Service providers can select ``best-of-breed' components without compatibility concerns. For end-customers, service providers can increase the variety of their service offerings and deploy them with a quicker time to market.

``We enjoy a successful relationship with Alcatel that results in our customers operating their networks more efficiently,' says Ian McLaren, CrossKeys President and CEO. ``This development is indicative of the value CrossKeys brings through multi-vendor mediation.'

The Alcatel 1631SX SMC is the industry's most versatile wideband digital cross-connect with a capacity of up to 288 DS3s/STS-1s. It cross connects communications between the DS3 (45 Megabits per second) and DS1 (1.54 Mbps) transmission rates and also features multifunctional gateway functionality. With its unique Flexpoint(tm) interface, the 1631SX SMC not only acts as a SONET gateway between synchronous and asynchronous networks but also serves as an international gateway with its additional E1 (2.04 Mbps) and STM-1 (155 Mbps) interfaces plus its built-in Hybrid DS3 (mixed E1/DS1) functionality.

The CrossKeys CrossControl products allow the Alcatel 1631SX SMC switch to be fully visible and manageable under the Siemens/Newbridge MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager. Using CrossKeys CrossControl software, service providers can remotely access and control the 1631SX SMC digital cross-connect in their networks.

CrossKeys CrossControl products bring different vendors' equipment under the control of industry-leading network management systems. The software's flexible framework can easily extend its element management capabilities to other network platforms and telecommunication equipment manufacturer's nodes. The CrossKeys CrossControl family of products currently supports Frame Relay, TDM and ATM nodes including: Alcatel DEXCS1, DEXCS1L, DEXCS1VL, 1630SX and 1631SX SMC; Nortel Passport; Lucent DACS II; Tadiran T::DAX and T::DAX 100; and Siemens 36190.
