Why isn't CYMI in the micromachining arena?
***************************************

Because Cymer is a one trick pony. (albeit a very good one).
Brian you know how defensive (or offensive if you are the recipient) the thread guardsmen become when the question of Cymer's market share come up. Could you imagine what the response would be if Cymers market share dropped to 70% because they became distracted by a new business? (VBG)

Better to let that other company develop the market and then have Cymer benchmark their product and come up with something better.

Brian,

Cymer does not work with YAG lasers at all simply because it is not their field.

I remember from couple of years ago that Cymer used to ship one or two lasers per quarter for none "semicunductor manufacturing" industry. They used to mention it during their CC. Strangely enough none of the analyst ever asked what those lasers are used for or who they are sold to. I do think however, that they were used for manufacturing laser Jet printer heads.
