I wondered when someone would ask that! This is why I sometimes wish I used pure technical analysis and never read the news. When I looked at SUNW's chart yesterday afternoon I said, "OK, so what? The rapid upward trend is still in place."

Then I clicked on the "News" link. That did it -- I decided to ignore the pattern and base my rating purely on the news.

That's precisely why on my daily market performance ratings I go only by what the models say. Too many times I said to myself "but the models don't know what I know about today's news" -- only to have the models turn out right and my interpretation turn out wrong.

As I've said, I really like Sun. This latest news is just more evidence of their further penetration into and conquering of the "platform" of the future (the Internet). Microsoft is a follower here -- I'm convinced of that as I daily toil to try to make sense of their latest efforts to integrate XML into Windows 2000 and Internet Explorer 5. They are reacting, not leading. I don't know if that's going to work this time.

Yeah, my "Top 5" concept maybe has to go. I really should continuously rate the companies I am very familiar with. In that case, SUNW would have changed from Buy to Hold on my list, but it wouldn't have disappeared from the site as though I no longer consider it a great company.

Thanks for calling me on that!
