Doug, if I remember correctly right now the best capacity has ASDN/LU 550 ATM switch-25 Gbit/s.
NT and CSCO are not better then 12.8 Gbit/s from NN.
However in addition to capicity, big guys like C&W,SBC,FT are looking for multiple functionality and manageability of the platform (switch + manager).
NN has absolutely the best manageability. Also some fastest switches like ASND/LU can not run circuit emulation unless you have extra switch(ASND call it 250 extender).
IN Europe for example x.25 is very, very common and NN has the best solution.
So speed is crucial for emerging carrier, were true multiservices (ablility to run native ATM,FR,CE,TDM,X25 on the same platform) is not important b/c they do not have many of this features.
Hovewer, big guys pay attaintio to legacy network!!!
Also, reliability is very important to big guys. You know what I mean, MCI ,ATT etc.
NN is know for the best reliability. For example in Canada and US most of
Federa Aviation Agency which is operated I belive by MCI network is using 36170 platform.
Another feature is port density, which ASDN has better.
The same 36170 can run LMDS!!!, which ASDN can not and CSCO LMDS is big ????.
So far they won one contract in Australia.
As you see the simple answer is very difficult.
ASDN has also some feature which NN does not have on 12.8, and which are important for CLEC's, and this is why ANSD was so succesful in this space.
But stand by for 50 not even mentioned 450 featurs!!!!!!!!!!
Leapfrog!!!

Zbyslaw

Doug: LU/ASND has GX550 at 25Gb/s with OC-48 optical connection ports. NT has Passport 15000 with 40Gb/s and OC-48 interfaces. The NN 36170 is 12.8 Gb/s with OC-12. This information is from the Morgan Stanley NN Research report, dated 11/26/1999.

As you can see, the 50 GIG switch is sorely needed.
