If the purpose of posting on SI becomes making money or gaining popularity, I think that is self defeatist approach. The money has to be made from markets and not by front running or hyping or spamming. One needs to know that SI posting and one's trading success have to be inter-related. When it is not so, 90 out of 100 posters after making big waves would resign. The trade posted here has to be part of your actual trade, I have noticed that if I was just posting and not trading likes of NOK's and IBM's of the world I would be lost in the valley of nostalgia. No point making great calls if the top line that is your call is not translated into bottom line i.e. your profit. The best thing is to use this forum as a tool to help one 'ownself' not others. Once this spirit is embodied by posters, he will always think that any posts are to his own benefit and if others are enjoying that is a small bonus and we do get great rewards in form of global friendships, cyber-love and greater human unity. The 'thank you ' notes we get so often are a further premium. SI is a great experiment and this will only survive if we are sincere and honest in our objectives. I have seen in last four years or so a lot of hpye but at the end of the day most of us who continue and post on SI over period of time have demonstrated that we love our home, this is our home and only integrity and sincerity of purpose is the only motivation. Every other intention fortunately self eliminates. Thanks for a nice note..

I don't sell anything -- but if something I've written offends, I do want to know that. I'm not a day trader, so I wouldn't get whipsawed by daily market fluctuations. I don't claim to be a Master either. I just claim to have found something that has worked very well to reduce risk in my own investing. I didn't lose much last fall or this fall during the drops, but I do profit from the gains when the market rises. Essentially, I believe in buy and hold for the long term, but I use the methods I've discovered to essentially avoid the big market dips. Don't claim to be a genius, just a decent mathematical modeler. Kevin Farnham
