Timing stocks is very different from timing the market. Yes, JDN. That's exactly what I've been trying to say, and people give me flack for it. I hope they all read your message.

Stocks move on news. With the market indices, however, it's such a huge conglomeration of news that the movements are slowed, delayed. It takes a while for the prevailing view to shift. And for this reason, you can evaluate the risk of the market. Volatility is one indicator that is used by lots of quantitative analysis people at places like Goldman-Sachs and Salomon-SmithBarney.

All I want to do is avoid the dips. If you do that, your overall return is greatly enhanced. That's what my 12+ years of study is all about: minimizing risk of loss, minimizing draw-downs, increasing risk-adjusted return. This is what my tables and graphs show.

Anyway, I got rid of my Top 5 stocks list -- why take SUNW off my list when I still love the company? Instead, now I rate 10 companies I know something about, post my favorite mutual fund (FDEGX), and make my daily stock market and treasury bond prediction based on the models.

Thanks for another insightful note!
