Microsoft says plans other mobile alliances
STOCKHOLM, Dec 9 (Reuters) - U.S. software group Microsoft (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) said on Thursday it planned other mobile phone alliances but its deal with Swedish telecoms equipment maker Ericsson was seen as unique.

``There will be other alliances but they will be different,' Thomas Koll, vice-president of Microsoft network solutions, told Reuters, stressing that a mobile Internet partnership would remain unique.

``But we certainly see partnerships with them (Nokia and Motorola),' he said in reply to a question.

Microsoft and Ericsson said on Wednesday they were forming an alliance to offer and develop Web browsers and e-mail over mobile phones in a ground-breaking deal seen as having spin-off benefits for the entire wireless industry.

Koll said that Microsoft had high hopes for its Explorer mobile browser, which is designed to empower Internet-enabled mobile telephones.

``We expect to put it on future phones and we hope to capture a majority of the market,' he said.

At 1430 GMT, Ericsson shares were down 30 crowns at 519 crowns in a sharply negative market.
