I think the more important question is one of correlation (and lack thereof). What if the other imbalances have little or no effect on inflation, perhaps because of other mitigating factors (producticity growth, for example, though I understand that is a four letter word for many on this thread)? If I eat an excess of 1000 calories a day and play a 3 set tennis game as well, I am not going to gain weight, period. The doctor who focuses solely on the diet, then, is a quack. The doctor who considers both part of the equation is ensuring that I live a fuller, better life. So, I reject individual analysis of different sub-components of the economy in measuring the needs of the economy. Bottom line is that consumer inflation is not growing despite growth in money supply and I believe that a prudent observer would instead try to understand what in the analogue of the tennis game here.
