VPI - upgraded ! ...talk about timing; THE #1 Play on Crude prices; also BHI NOTE ! Thursday December 9, 10:06 am Eastern Time Alert: Csfb Ups Vintage Petroleum to Buy From Hold (NYSE:VPI, re: BHI - it is the "nature" of the accounting issues with BHI that will be important here. The seismic business has lots of issues with accounting. BHI is not a sleazeball company trying to pull the wool over wall streets eyes here - they are wiping the slate clean imho. We are due for one of these blow offs to really bounce back strongly as being overdone. Maybe BHI ? certainly if you buy into this - you must be prepared to wait untill BHI turns around investor confidence. But BHI at a 5 year low with $30 crude oil and Boom 2000 around the bend - I'll take the plunge... My main thought on BHI here is that the accounting issue is not with BHI "entirely" people ! It is ONLY from a unit - Inteq within BHI. That is THE story here... BHI as a corporate entity has not misled the street - the word I got from my is that this was "caught" by normal internal audit's - they came clean, told it all, told it immediately as they should - and that after the dust settles; Big Money will be all over buying BHI. The keypoint being - this is NOT a case where BHI "corporate" mis-stated the numbers. This is MERELY one small subsidiary unit within BHI that their internal controls caught - period. The Street WILL still DEFINITELY have confidencein BHI top management. That is what is different here & that is why I am a buyer.
