Silicom is Announcing Support for Linux Operating Systems

Mahwah, New Jersey, March 15, 1999 --- Silicom Inc. (NASDAQ: SILCF, SILZF) today announced that the company has developed special software drivers to provide Linux operating system support for its PC Card products users. The new drivers will be released on the Silicom Web site by the end of January.

Linux is a full-featured Unix-like multitasking operating system. It is absolutely free, powerful, robust and user-friendly operating system, and is available in source code. As a Unix clone, Linux contains built-in networking and native Internet support. According to some sources, there are between 10 to 12 million users working with Linux and the number is rapidly growing.

“There's no doubt that the Linux train is rolling full-steam ahead: Recent announcements of large software developers that are porting their products to Linux and positive discussions in such publications as Forbes and The Economist have added momentum. The impetus is giving some supporters a reason to believe Linux could overtake Windows NT as the operating system of choice in the next few years.” (Andy Eddy, IDG, August, 1998)

The new Linux software drivers developed by Silicom support the company's Ethernet PC Card, and the dual-function Ethernet + Modem and Ethernet + Serial PC Cards. Silicom also offers Linux support for its 56Kbps Modem PC Card, as well as its RS-232 serial PC Card.

Silicom is currently developing Linux drivers for its single and dual-function CardBus products, including the Ethernet CardBus, 10/100 Fast Ethernet CardBus and 10/100 Fast Ethernet + 56Kbps Modem CardBus PC Cards.

“We are proud to introduce our new software solutions for the growing Linux community”, said Igor Royzis, Software development manager at Silicom. “The development of these new Linux drivers is an additional example of the company's commitment and strategy to support as many operating systems and platforms as possible”.

Silicom Inc. is a leading provider of high-performance connectivity solutions for portable computers. The Company offers a broad line of single- and multi-function PC Card and CardBus products with support for Fast Ethernet, Ethernet, Token Ring, 56Kbps modem, USB and RS-232.
