i wonder, mr.k, why lucent trumpeted a major increase of bandwidth in non-cable laser transmission (is it solely IR?), when the technology is basically limited because of interference. it's something like showing an ability to make scads of a fragile material that tears. could it be: a) simply announcing the results of pure research in a space that may some day find a useful application? b) a p/r decision? c) lucent has a development in progress somehow to penetrate fog, snow and particulates?
