The bodily assumption of Mary into heaven is, if I recall correctly, one of exactly two explicit invocations of Papal infallibility. The other being, I think, the Immaculate Conception, celebrated two days ago. Even before the current Pope, the cult of Mary was strong in the Catholic church.
