Again: Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Jesus said this at the end of the great sermon. Jesus explained at the beginning of that sermon that He in no wise came to destroy the Law of God. Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. I do not know how many "twisters" I have heard say that Jesus said until He fulfilled it just 3 years later. They at that point do think that Jesus came to destroy the law, to put it away, to put an end to it. Jesus DID say next verse: John 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Last time I looked heaven ( the universe )and earth were still there. He then warned of those who would say the moral law was done away with of this: Mattew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. That was speaking of the least or smallest of God's Commands. IT is true that men are not justified before God by obeying the Law because we don't and if we say we do we are liars: 1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. However the following is also true of those who give up trying to obey that law: 1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. Both kinds of men are lairs... Those who think they are being justified by their obedience to God's Law and fail to see their sin AND those who have turned the Grace of God into lasciviousness Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But also: 1 Cor 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. Men cannot understand Salvation until they see there are two covenants... One of Works ( Christ alone fulfilled ) and One of Grace and the Elect are saved under that one the rest are judged under the first and found wanting and pass into hell forever. Also men cannot understand Law until they see a difference between Moral Law ( contained in both covenants ) and Ceremonial Law ( contained in the progressive revelation of Grace and changing until the new covenant ) Moral law never changes it is the character of God and cannot change. Ceremonial must change with revelation of Jesus and was as it were 'dispensational' There have been many covenants of Grace under the one true and great covenant. All of them looked to Jesus to be saved. Satan has changed the very first words ever preached in the New Testament. First words out of John the Baptist Matthew 3:2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. "Repent ye" means to acknowledge the Law of God and turn from sin. First words out of Jesus Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. First words out of the radio preacher:Accept Jesus as your personal saviour... blah blah barf. What has happened to God Holy Law. What has happened to REPENTANCE and HOLY LIVING ? Why are modern churches filled with suicide and adultery? What did Peter Preach: Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Men keep "giving" to God... what does God want? Sacrifices or Obedience. Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. What was Paul's hope for men: 2 Timothy 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; Always the Call to Obey God's Holy Law contained in the Ten Commandments even as Jesus said: Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Jesus wrote the Ten Commandments with His own finger. None else of the Bible was written directly. He wrote it twice because Moses in anger did not want to give that precious gift to the sinful people that God has so graciously shared with Him but God in mercy wrote it again. Those who are the called and have true love from God will say with me: Psalms 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
