Chuck, from the discussions between PB and Zoran, I had the impression that notched gates were ALREADY being used in the CuMine, and that they may be responsible for low yields, but may also be the reason PB thinks the 0.18 process can eventually get to 1 GHz on the P6 core.

The notched gates are one of the main features of Intel's 0.18 um technology. You can read about this in an article in the Semiconductor International. I don't know which product implemented them first.
