>>>I don't believe the multi-year contracts Checkfree has with First Union and Wells Fargo have come up for renewal yet.

Yes, the WFC goes into 2001. I have no idea on First Union. In addition Yahoo!, Merril, and other should help make CF less dependent on these banks in the future.

Bob:

Fascinating article about Beyond.com in today's WSJ. Shows that the hard part of making an internet company work is not the start up and funding the concept. In today's financial markets, this is the easy part.

The real work (and risk) is in EXECUTION, and making sure customers are happy AT A COST LEVEL that makes money. According to the article, the CFO of Beyond.com quit when the going got rough because he "would rather work with start ups". Of course he would! That's the easy part!

IMO, CKFR will succeed partly because they did it "backwards" by executing first. They've been serving customers for a decade, fine tuning and improving the model to be sure they can make money and keep customers happy. Only now are they scaling it up.

>>>I wish I were a fly on the wall and could hear the Chase people present Checkfree their contractual demands at this point in time.............

I'm sure these Spectrum announcements are part of the negotiation strategy.

>>>I don't feel the same way and am thinking of holding a memorial service for every share I sold.

I consider mine to be on vacation, after working 3 years non stop, I gave them some time off. Some even got a free 20 year paid vacation into our retirement accounts. Once they are all rested up and a value presents itself they'll be on it LSOS.
