Another gold=waste article...interesting timing. They did get one word right, Giraffe...it is indeed a "scheme" cooked up by the ruling junta. Sounds like they need a Clinton spinmeister or two on their gov't payroll to scrub their official press releases and "shape" media re-positing of same. Thanks for that contribution, G. I think I'll go find Lalit Jain and see if he'd like to op ed your posted article. Seems to me that the last time Lalit posted on India's citizens and their attitude toward gold ownership, it wasn't the taxation he was discussing altho' he did mention it. I believe the government will clash loudly with the religious fabric of the nation when it comes to "interior gold holders" Seems there is a set of religious instruction regarding "sinfulness in loaning of gold, let alone in exchange for worth-less and less paper"...as in more worthless the day they "cash in said gold certificate" piddly interest not withstanding...because of inflation of course. Funny, but the annual inflation rate of India's economy wasn't mentioned in that entire propaganda piece come to think of it... And even funnier is the stupidity to note one place in the article that they are concerned about the 600 tons annually coming into India, and yet they say most of the gold is hidden "in the countryside's" denizens. India is probably THEEEEE hot bed of contraband gold shipments IMPORTS of all the major continents. That 600 tons---I'm willing to bet another nugget on--is but a tip of the iceberg as to what is reeeeeeally going on in the world of gold smuggled into India's "countryside" In fact, so much gold is smuggled into India that EG Marshall spent quite a bit of time in his 1986 Nat'l Geographic Narrated Special to deal with just how it is done, where it crosses, in what form/shape the smuggled gold is in, and how it is hidden for cross border transport. Yep, yep, yep...I'm a sayin' 600 tons annually is on the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW side and that loss of that 160% tax revenue (aka "customs duty" is what is REEEEEEALLY bugging the Indian gov't O/49r
