I think you are dead wrong. Maximizing profits just because you have the power can be a dangerous game. And, I think it is way too easy to evaluate management on short term profits. Good management is evaluating the technology adoption cycle and determining the necessary actions to enahce the company's position down the road. Cree's management may well be at a croissroads and need to lower costs to accelerate transition to their technology. If they keep prices high at a critical juncture for their customers they could damage their long term revenue and profit streams simply because the customers will refuse to adopt their technology -- or go elsewhere.

IN THE LONG RUN ALL PRODUCTS ARE SUBSTITUTABLE.
