Kip: Herb Greenberg will be eating his own garbage. In fact, if he is not careful he will be known as Herb "Garbageberg." He apparently is quick to disparage a stock like CORL when he does not know what is happening "today" with the company and its products; and obviously, he knows nothing about Linux. Further, here is a little clip about Corel from a different article from TheStreet.com earlier this morning on Linux mania:

"Corel (CORL:Nasdaq), a longtime Microsoft foe from Ottawa that once marketed the WordPerfect word processing program head to head against Microsoft Word, saw its shares soar 10 15/16, or 39%, to close at 39 1/4 after trading as high as 45. The company now sells simple versions of Linux."

Excuse me? "Once marketed WordPerfect head to head with MS Word, and sells a simple version of Linux?"

First, Corel's desktop is anything but "simple." It not only has the most state of the art Linux installation routine and GUI, but its very existence extends the desirability of Linux in the marketplace. Truthfully, if firm's decide to put Linux on the desktop, they really don't need Redhat. Corel is actually better positioned than Redhat to provide quality support, as they have a more staff resources.

Second, Corel still has the leading graphics products for the PC, and the WordPerfect Suite is still a complete contender as far as functionality and product quality are concerned. Moreover, WordPerfect itself is still superior to Word.

Third, do the folk's at TheStreet.com understand what role Corel will play with "Linux mania" by introducing their graphic's and productivity products for Linux in just a couple of months?

I think the guy's at CNBC and TheStreet.com are just crying sour grapes because because they "didn't see it coming." Shame on this type of muckraking to adversely affect the market. "Linux for Idiots" has taken on a new meaning.

Further Up,

Scott

CORL now out of Herb Greenberg's garbage index. List refined to exclude companies making a profit, hence CORL out.
