Windsock,

Re:"The forecast that the PIII and Athlon will scale together appears right on target.

Congratulations to PB and the team on the good engineering job. And thanks to PB for the shrewd forecast in spite of the abuse from certain AMDroid fanatics."

Yeah I agree that Intel has pulled a very clever hat out of the process box.

I suspect that AMD will still enjoy a lead.

However they have missed their targets badly on the Athlon professional product (with larger L2 cache) and MP support.

Originally expected in Q4 it is nowhere to be seen.

In addition they are still not supporting PC133 across the board ie with K6 family let alone pushing a DDR solution out.

In addition the Dresden fab has been delayed 1 quarter - perhaps due to lack of OEM demand rather than process issues.

Also the news on K6-2/3 plus parts having speed problems could be a real problem in Q1 with VIA getting back in the market. They need to be 100% over 500Mhz in Q1 to kill off any VIA entry into the market IMHO.

So yest their is definately a horserace.

regards,

Kash

Although I am obviously very bullish on AMD I do see chinks in the armor.
