If you think DELL will not go much below 40, you might think about selling Jan 40 Puts and use the money to offset a purchase - this would effectively give you a buy price around 40 today. I'm probably not the best one to judge near term action. DELL might go into the high 30's if there is Y2K impact in the sector even though DELL has little Y2k exposure. That might present a buying opportunity. Remember on a put sale that you need to take the underlying if it is put to you (probably at strike less premium) so have either cash or margin to cover. I might wait and see if it dips below 40 - then re-evaluate what is the best way to reduce the costs. Not everyone would be comfortable selling puts to offset a purchase... it's moderately bullish as you "double down" at the strike price.
