Small correction (graciously pointed out via PM to me) ...

Wafer size is diameter, not radius, so we're actually dealing with 1*1 and 1.5*1.5, but the ratio and percentage change is the same.

(Like I said the first time, it was long ago ;-)

No problem with my math, but my reading comprehension failed to make the grade.

Incidently, it was a long, long time ago, (just after the school house) that I played with such small wafers but I seemed to remember that increasing the diameter actually gave a somewhat higher than geometric related yield boost. It may have been due to the die loss on the edge or maybe I've forgotten whether a shrink was involved. I have the same problem as Unclewest:"a great memory...but it doesn't last long."
