Kash, I'll just comment on one thing you said in your post:

I really don't think a dual-core Sledgehammer will be available that soon. First, AMD has to release the single-core Sledgehammer first, and that probably won't be here until 2H 2001. By then, well, that's all I'll say for now.

Legacy x86 software (current applications) would support only 32 bit addressing, wouldn't they ?

Then of what use would the 64 bit addressing be to these 32 bit legacy programs?
