Lizzie Tudor: I know a lot of intuitive investors, some good, some not so good. (The same with TA & FA.) However, MDA was not created for "gut feels" and it was clearly stated in the guidelines and for a reason.

The primary reason for requesting that "gut feels" be kept to a minimum was to eliminate the Joe Blows that jump on a thread and just make exaggerated claims looking for recognition. Providing analysis with one's expectations allowed readers to analyze the reasoning behind the expectation and help the readers make their own decisions.

Regards,
LG

OT IWOV
lol, if it makes you feel any better, I let it go at 75, so I left even more on the table than you did.

And to Eugene Kearney, if you are out there, thanks for the heads up on CIEN last week.

<But gut feel falls apart in the short term>

Not always even in the ST. We all know that TA is stuck looking backwards, which means it can spot reversals only after the fact. Case in point was the recent IT reversal of the Dow and other indices in November. Just about EVERYBODY on "that other thread" <g> was bearish, including most of the bulls available for comment. Only the commentator Jerry Favors was publicly nailing that reversal, to my knowledge.

At any rate, some technicians (not LG, he's a good guy <g>) miss the forest for the trees, as I see it. Maybe our qualitative perceptions of the market cannot always be quantified or analyzed, but if they prove to be useful over time, why not give them their due?

Perhaps the problem is just semantic. To LG, gut feel means random, ignorant pronouncements, whereas to me, gut feel can mean calls honed from years of market experience, and based on a myriad of factors that can't always be pinned down. Investor Business Daily's William O'Neill calls this "getting a feel for the market."
