Red Hat to license RSA Security software for Linux
NEW YORK, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Security software maker RSA Security Inc. (NasdaqNM:RSAS - news) said on Friday Red Hat Inc. (NasdaqNM:RHAT - news), will license RSA technology for use in one of the Linux software packages it offers.

Red Hat, the best known distributor of Linux, an alternative to the Microsoft Windows operating system, will use RSA's ''BSafe'' SSL-C software in Red Hat's Linux ''Professional Edition'' product.

The two companies will work together to improve the security features of Red Hat's software, and are planning joint marketing programs for their respective products and services to improve security across the Linux operating system.

''Red Hat is pleased to expand our strategic partnership with RSA Security,'' Robert Young, Red Hat's chairman and chief executive. ''Our use of RSA Security's e-security technologies in our products will help position Red Hat Linux as one of the world's most secure platforms for conducting e-commerce.''

RSA shares closed at 37-13/16 on Nasdaq Thursday, down 3/16 from the previous close, but was last quoted at 39 on Instinet. Red Hat shares closed at 103-1/2 Thursday on Nasdaq, up 8-1/4 from the previous day
