DELL Continued....

DELL needs to push into the Enterprise with greater force next year as Itanium products become available. Linux may provide them with the software they need to launch the Itanium 64b servers. Sunw currently has Solaris which is a well seasoned version of UNIX. DELL may be able to get what it needs from SCO. Wherever they have to go to get the Unix OS they need for the high end servers they should go.
They need both W2K and Unix to support the Enterprise and internet server markets.

The network appliance market is also another arena that they can package their servers to address. They need to work with companies like Nokia and the telecoms to package products and services for these emerging markets. These may become the new "theme" investments for the 2K.

more later....

They can also package web page servers in the 1u format and compete with IBM in that market niche.

jim re: "if dell wanted to drive their stock price up"

with all due respect to your expertise.......why don't they?

if the "mutual fund theme" that you describe prevails, why on earth would dell not want to participate to grow their market cap?????

what am i missing!!!!

2/17/99 niles announcement dell at 82 1/2 (41 1/4 post split)
12/10/99 niles redux dell at 41 7/16

nice 3/16 move in 10 months!!!!

if dell is all that they say they are, what harm is it in playing the game that all others play to reward the stockholders????
