The global Marconi Communications organization brings together Marconi Communications (a leading developer of access, broadband, power and transmission solutions for telecommunications service providers) and FORE Systems (a leading provider of Internet switching and network management software for emerging service providers and enterprise corporations).

The new Communications organization and management structure position Marconi to take advantage of the increasing worldwide demand for communications solutions - especially in the integration of Internet, voice, video, multimedia and data services for the New Public Network. Marconi Communications is a key supplier for over 80 percent of the world's largest telecommunications organizations, including British Telecom, MCI Worldcom, Sprint, Telefonica and UUNet. Leading enterprise customers, including Boeing, Ford Motor Company, Microsoft, Prudential Insurance and Shell Oil also rely on Marconi Communications for their network infrastructure.

Marconi also announced the formation of a new Global Services Business, led by Neil Sutcliffe and based in Coventry in the UK. Marconi Services will provide worldwide professional services, consulting and support to customers from more than a dozen locations around the world.

"With this team, and this structure, Marconi is well positioned in the fastest growth sectors of one of the fastest growing industries in the world today," commented George Simpson, CEO of Marconi p.l.c. "We will continue to invest resources into growing both Marconi Communications and Marconi Services. We will also continue to make significant steps to expand each organization's already large worldwide presence and customer focus."

Building the Infrastructure for the New Public Network

Marconi Communications leverages and integrates best-in-class technology for communications providers and corporations and also adds expanded research and development and support facilities around the world. Marconi customers will benefit from integrated product offerings as well as enhanced services and support with newly established research, development and support centers located in England, Italy, Ireland, Israel and major U.S. cities including Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Chicago.

Mr. Parton is an industry expert with more than fifteen years of telecommunications experience. He brings a track record of successfully leading the 30,000 member Marconi Communications organization to dominance in the European telecommunications market. Mr. Parton will report to Marconi p.l.c.
