It could be grit, but it's in every faucet in the house except for the one at the utility sink in the basement, and the one at the hose bibcock (not, technically, "in" the house). I don't think it's that way at the washing machine, but not sure. I thought it might be due to pressure, but the bathroom sink in the basement has the same problem. All the sink taps, all the shower taps, and the kitchen sink tap have the low flow problem. They are all the pull-out types, not sure what the technical name is, you don't turn a handle for hot and a handle for cold, you pull out a handle thingie in the middle, a little for a little water, all the way for more water, and turn it from side to side to adjust the temperature. The shower ones are different than the sink ones, and the bathroom sinks are different than the kitchen sink, but they all have puny flow. Either they are all defective, all clogged, or all have an artificial restriction in them. The utility sink and the hose bibcock are actual faucets. I guess I will get a plumbing book from the library.
