I doubt that Irid will get many new customers with this provision. Not only that, with sales force virtually shut down, who will sell phones?

The $20M in cash to Iridium might just be to delay the
liquidation until after the '00 meltdown.

I just realized that the 50K Iridium phones sold as
an Y2K backup solution would be returned to Iridum/Motorola
with a refund request totalling $1200 * 50000 = $60M.

Just after people have proven that no problems came up
with the global phone systems, Iridum can be shut
down with out any claims of refund.
It did its job, provided protection against the millenium
bug!
