synthetic organic chemist. I will be well decomposed before I'm obsolete.

There will always be a place in the world for atomic engineers. Biology techniques will change over time, but the atoms which constitute all matter will never change. And as I stated earlier, there are some limitations to combinatorial approaches (in chemistry aspecially) which will provide job security to chemists for generations. Even if techniques are advanced in combi chem and robotics, one can always work the levers <ggg>. If you're suggesting genetically engineered drugs will make me obsolete, well, all I can say is I'm not losing sleep.
