Actually its ESP.. no really what I do besides looking through some new technology magazines, where I can understand about 1/2 of what I read, its enough.. Then I get a company name (i.e. IONN,BITS, ESPS or whatever) from that magazine. I put them in a database and give them 'daily check-ups' for unusual volume and price increases. Sometimes when you read about the 'leaders' in a sector they mention 'upstarts' and they too get added. All this is mostly in fields I am familiar with: Software, is the main field where I can find them since I am involved with web design, internet financial services, web security, anything having to do with e-commerce, hosting, etc. Now I am interested in digital media and also in wireless communications etc. What I don't do is take the stock of the hour unless it happens to be one thats on my database. I might look at it, like it and add to a database but I'd never buy it until I watched it for at least 24 hours.

You also keep abreast of 'deals' in the making and volume and range expansion usually alerts you that something is cooking. If the day is over you do a scan for stocks between $5 and 15 that have 200% more than usual volume and a range expansion (3 points intraday range when the average is only about 1 for that particular stock). You can 'request' 20 day moving average breakouts, 10 day MA breakouts.. 4 week breakouts with expanding volume and range, opening gap that doesnt get filled etc...

The point is they don't always follow through, but when they do the uptrend can last up 1 week or more.
