Caroline--Actually the problem is it keeps me from dropping by where my girl friend works.
You are correct though, kissing of sales clerks is gauche. Unless of course you are in Cartiers, Tiffany's, Neiman Marcus, or Harvey Nicks.

I did once when the salesperson had a brainstorm and found the perfect gift! I hope it made his day....
