did you know they work with phillips and macrovision on video and dvd watermarkings?

Video Anti-Piracy Solutions
Innovation always carries some risk. With digital video, the risk is content piracy. Consumers today can buy DVD players, and will soon be buying DVD or DVHS recorders. That means it will be easy for anyone, anywhere, to make unauthorized copies of high-quality digital content. Without the development of a digital copy protection program, studios have been reluctant to proceed with wide release of digital content.

Digimarc and its partners have responded to this challenge by creating a digital video anti-piracy system. This system, when fully distributed, will complement Macrovision's analog copy protection system and the stand-alone component that is already installed in the current generation of DVD players and digital set-top decoders.

Using a unique approach to digital watermarking, Digimarc, Macrovision and Philips engineers have developed of technology that can protect program material on videocassettes, DVDs, cable or satellite transmissions from unauthorized copying to recordable DVDs, DVHS and multimedia personal computers.

This video anti-piracy system uses the Digimarc technology to embed play/record control information within a video stream. These embedded instructions stay with the video even when it is copied or converted to analog, and are able to control the behavior of video devices and software. Detectors can be cost-effectively deployed in hardware or software to meet real-time play and record control requirements in a wide range of DVD platforms.
