...if Yale was really concerned about Yale's reputation, it simply makes more sense for Yale to be outraged, to protect their own, and to put major pressure on local law enforcement.

Well, I agree. Problem is, that takes integrity and courage. To be charitable, I suppose this lack of integrity and courage is more a reflection on the powers than be at Yale rather that Yale itself. I can't imagine Bart Giamatti's Yale acting this way.

Actions speak louder than words. Why hasn't Yale spent some of its billions on their own private investigation? Do you think Yale is a) gutless, b) doesn't give a damn, or c) doesn't want to be seen stepping on a few toes? What would you do under these circumstances?

I asked a Yalie today about whether they thought it would be better for Yale for the killer to have been presumed to be someone random from New Haven or a member of the Yale community. He said without a doubt to be someone from the Yale community. His reasoning was that if it were someone from Yale they could always fire or expel that person and say it was obviously an isolated experience and things are under control. On the other hand, if the person were from New Haven they couldn't take any action against that person nor sweep New Haven under a rug. Yes, just one person's opinion but thought I'd let you know. I'll keep asking around.
