CB, if you're willing to be a bit contrarian, minivans are cheap these days, statistically quite safe, pretty reliable compared to SUVs, quite roomy, great hauling capacity, good visibility, pretty car-like handling, etc. The only place SUVs will beat them is off road, maybe inclement weather but SUVs have some handling problems too. Minivans do have the soccer mom stigma, though.

If you want safety via conservation of momentum, which is mainly what SUVs give you, you can get a full size van, which will have more people room and carrying capacity than anything and is marginally more expensive than a minivan. Even less cool than minivans, though.

Cheers, Dan.

Hi Cobalt,

Was it me dissing SUVs?? Check the posts?? I was talking big houses, big decks, small minds, not yours or CGB's or others, but a few that haunt this thread. The minds thing came up because the insult humor reared it's ugly little head..

Hey if you need one.. go for it.. I'm not one to dis'em or If I did. I'd be dissing me for most of my driving life..

But if I didn't happen to live in the Mountains and drove in the snow, I wouldn't have one.. gas, tires and all that you know.. But in my mind, you get more for the money with a US made one.. Not dissing the ones made out of the country but JMO..

Have a good day..coug

Addendum, We always called them 4 wheel drives or 4X4's. whether they were pickups or Cherokee types. Took me awhile to know what that SUV stood for.
