Yeah after I wrote that I was sorry... a bit too harsh... especially since I'm an ex-Texan and KNOW better, lol. The origins of SUVs were functional vehicles that probably were just as bad on the environment but if you have to have one, you have to have one.

But ever since they have gone upscale they are targeting the city dwellers and stock brokers - some of the ads do this deliberately - and there isn't any need for an SUV in the city, its a big waste. Of course I know why people buy them, they feel they are safer looking up over all the smaller cars.

Funny I was just talking to someone a few days ago and we came to the conclusion that car prices have actually declined since the early 90s EXCEPT suv's. Some of the stickers are higher than the models from the early 90s but they upgrade the models. I think the Saturns are close to the prices they were 5 years ago. And volvo has come out with a nice small car at 30K now (too small for the 6' people on this thread however). I think some of the car dealers are being squeezed just like some of the other retailers too - there was one guy locally who killed himself after he was caught money-laudering to save his network of auto dealerships.
