You point out the key difference between the pharmacy portion of a drug store's business and most of the rest of general merchandising. I couldn't agree with you more that streamlining and expediting would probably save more costs and aggravation for consumers than all this "cost cutting." When I look at some of the nonsense that goes on, I am aghast. When I hear doctors say that they have withdrawn from some of the PPOs because they were spending more time on paperwork than on patients' illnesses, I have to wonder how this is supposed to deliver medical care efficiently to consumers while holding the cost down--after all, the doctors do have overhead costs themselves and they are not making any money filling out forms.
