To the best of my knowledge unix systems keep the time as an ofset to a fixed date. Thus it is very easy to fix the unix version of Y2K by simply changing this fixed ofset. Even better when 64bit machines come to play we can grow this offset to a much larger number and thus unix version of Y2K will be so far away that the Sun will be a red giant before that!
