The gospels were written anywhere from 30-60 years after the death and resurrection of Jesus. Compared to Alexander the Great's earliest bibliographies, which were written 400 years after his death, these are very recent. Yet historians consider them to be generally accurate. Legendary material did develop, but it was in the centuries after the early bibliographies. For the most part, the first five hundred years kept Alexander's story pretty much intact, the next 500 developed myths and legends. So even if it was written 70 years, which is the estimate in worst case scenario, the amount of time is negligible in comparison. It's almost a non-issue.
