Hi Stew, Thanks for the chronology report on Home Recording Acts. There were a few items in there I was not aware of, like Sony being sued by Universal and Disney over their first Betamax for copyright infringement. All in all a pretty fascinating read. While I have you here, I read an interesting report in the new Upside magazine about a company called Liberate Technologies which unfortunately Larry Ellison has a big part in. The product of main interest was their WebVision. (DISCLAIMER...In no way shape or form am I presenting this company for consideration, I am wondering if they may impact Gemstar at all) I went to their web site and spent some time reading news articles and found some interesting tidbits that I am posting below. The main description of their Liberate TV Navigator for DTV and ISP's is below and some news articles also. Liberate TV NavigatorTM for DTV and ISP Digital cable and satellite TV operators select TV Navigator for DTV and Internet Service Providers choose TV Navigator for ISP as the client platform to deliver interactive services to consumers' television sets. TV Navigator for DTV runs on cable or satellite set-top boxes, TV Navigator for ISP runs on analog set-top boxes and game consoles. The client software combines standard Internet functionality, such as web browsing and e-mail, with the interactive media that merges television programming(TV Programming Guides) and Internet content to create the Enhanced TV experience that consumers value. Alliances AOL/Netscape Beatnik, Inc. Bitstream Canon Cisco Systems Hewlett-Packard Inktomi Lysis S.A. Oracle RealNetworks RSA Data Security Sun Microsystems Wind River Systems Wink Zi Corporation The mention of the TV Programming Guides and the news articles above dealing with Interactive TV is what caught my eye. How does Gemstar fit in with this or do they? There is NO mention of Gemstar in their list of alliances which followed the news articles, so if they are using a EPG or IPG where might it be coming from? I was unable to find a specific reference. Thanks for your responses, Perceval
