CGarcia,
I agree that there are hundreds of applications on Win32 API. But if you take a simple distribution of applications versus number of users, you will find less than 10 applications that consume almost all user space. If there are similar programs on this new OS with simple installation
things can get pretty hot. Still it may take a while though. Basic question is will the current domination of mind share continue for ever? OR for another 5 to 10 years?
We have to wait and see.

-Nat

And those that say Linux never crashes haven't run much on Linux. I agree, Linux will not see main stream status and those Linux IPO's will be the first to go belly up. If's mighty tough to have positive earnings on something that is given away. There is just not enough margin in CD manufacturing or book publishing. The people that jacked up VA Linux probably lost their shirts in the other Linux IPO's and will shortly on VA Linux....Classic pump and dump.

Actually, if the OS came with a browser, a mail program, and a reasonable office suite that offered inter-operability with Windows, then a lot of people could be tempted. The only reason I'm still torturing myself is the availability of games titles. If I bought a second machine I probably would load Linux,Netscape,Eudora,Star Office, etc.
