Michael -- great post -- it is good to see that the "rollout" is efficient, timely for order processing and easy to use. I feel a lot better about this investment based on your great experience.

Can you comment on your pricing plan? Is the phone to be used primarily for business?

regards

Micheal, Now that we have a bona fide poster with a phone to play with, could you tackle the Globalstar Worries so eloquently stated by TMann in the famous poem post #5611..."Will it work in the rain?, Will it work on a fast train? etc., etc."

Michael, After the seemingly endless 'soft rollout' a post like yours sounds, in the words of Jack Nicholson, fan f**king tastic. Here's to hoping that there are soon thousands more like you.

Regards, Dave

So, can I give you my phone number, ask you to call me on your G* phone (a few times) in satellite mode, and then send you a $5 bill in the mail ?

(I can't believe I am the first to ask this. Maybe you've already received a lot of private messages with the same request ...)

(I am on the list to get a G* handset from Globalstar USA. But, I haven't heard from them since the initial (excellent) info. they mailed to me).

Jon.

***Globalstar sold a phone!*** Good for you Michael! You've been on the case for years and now have a real, live phone! How exciting. It all seemed so easy too. That's the story. Didn't even need to go near a shop. Just order on the Web.

Ordered Friday and received Saturday!!! Heck, that is seriously prompt marketing.

A lot of houses in the USA [and elsewhere] have not much between the people and the sky. They have some paint coating, some inner layer, some insulation, some 3/4inch chipboard, some bituminous tiles, or wooden tiles etc and that's all. With satellites pretty much overhead, most of the signal would just go right through and the satellite would see the handset without trouble. Maybe the signal travelled like that rather than through the windows. The walls too are flimsy.

But you won't be using it in Hawaii! Well, not in Globalstar mode, but terrestrial cdmaOne should be fine. That's because there isn't a gateway in Hawaii and the satellites can't reach from Hawaii to the mainland.

You might not be able to use it in London either if the Europeans aren't handling roaming yet, though by end of January, they must be getting close. I don't even think the Caribbean is ready. I guess we'll soon know!

Good for you!

Mqurice

PS: Jon, you were pretty quickly on the case - only four hours after Michael, on a Sunday morning! You'll need to send him more than $5! At $1.70 per minute, you'll be burning up $50 before you know it. Anyway, you could phone him. Find out what the cost is in that direction. Give your long distance supplier a call and ask how much to phone a Globalstar phone - that should keep them busy for a while.
