Rude:

It just occurred to me what the real reason that nt64 on alpha was cancelled.

NT 5.0 has been ready for about 6 months. Microsoft has been delaying the introduction until Intel gets it act together with the 820/840. Although, corollary is ready, there must be something that requires the 820/840 for it to work without the 'braindrain'. The problem of the n+1 processor not stealing computational power from n.

This does not effect CPQ, they have solved the problem, but it does affect Intel and Dell.

Compact said to MSFT, ship the damn thing, anyway. MSFT said no.

CPQ retaliated by canceling NT64 on alpha.

THAT is why the cancellation was a surprise to MSFT.

That is why there are now two release dates for NT5, December 17th AND February 17th.

Well?
