Why A (Agilent) gets a D- From time to time I put a company on the avoid list. A is now an avoid. That's A as in Avoid. This is based on first hand knowledge and industry contacts. I bring this up as Agilent is on the air with a truly stupid TV commercial which they are beating to death. It shows a (yeah right) Cardiologist or Surgeon looking at a really poor image quality echocardiogram (poor endocardium, etc). The technology shown is 1980 vintage color flow imaging, no big deal, no revelation. Technology that ONCE upon a time was what made HWP at the time a technology leader, not so in the year 2000. A couple points here, regardless of what this emotional ad leads you to believe, doctors (or anyone else) don't run in a hospital unless you are going to a code. Another point, HWP not Agilent, was once the clear technology and market leader. I wouldn't give them that tile now. Both GE and Acuson (ACN) are one technology leap away from taking even more market share from HWP. Medical technology is that way, whoever has a technology makes the leap. When HWP said they would spin Medical, Test and Measurements, etc. I said "you can cut a dead fish in half but it still stinks". The problem at HWP and Agilent is one that Lew Platt didn't know about and neither may their new CEO. A feel good TV ad and smiles from a CEO and talk about what is "going" to happen is just that, talk and HWP's record is not so good on what they say they are going to do (look at HWP "earnings" for the past several years). And please HWP and Agilent, enough of the hugsy feely TV ads already. They are just another form of TALK and some of us know old technology, that is performed by every competitor in the industry when we see it. Nice try. I'd like to watch a football game without HYPE from a company that split itself because it was in serious trouble. You make 909S by what you avoid at times. After careful review, I'm glad my money is in GE. A gets a D-. And Agilent? What kind of name is that? ICK. It is not even a word, kinda like a TV ad, made up. 909S,BLUE
