If you can boot from a SCSI hard disk then you should be able to read and write to either your JAZ or your SCSI hard disk when running DOS and without loading any drivers

My SCSI hdd is not bootable..no OS..I use it for EOD data storage.

if you can boot to Windows 98 try running "Add New Hardware" from the "Control Panel" to see what happens.

I was hoping the new Jaz hardware would be automatically detected by w98. It wasn't. I'll try running Add New Hardware as well as plugging the Jaz directly into the ribbon coming off mobo 50 pin connector.

Thx
Clarence

Archiving e-mail-

I would appreciate any advice on how to archive e-mail on a different drive and still retain the ability to read it with Netscape Communicator 4.7.

I recently moved several large (12-30 MB) e-mail files from my C to my D drive with the assistance of Norton Utilities. There each e-mail folder becomes an SNM file and a file that Windows characterizes as a "FILE". I can read the text files with a text file reader like QuickView, but not with Netscape.

These e-mail files are too large to search with a text reader. I can't figure out a way to link them to open in the current e-mail window of my Netscape Communicator. I can't move them back because I am running out of disk space on drive C.

Any ideas appreciated.

George D.

Finally a breakthru!!..but more confusion as well

I was unable to figure out how to directly connect the HD50 pin Jaz to the IDC50 pin mobo connector any more directly than I already have it. A HD50 to IDC50 adapter is reqiured and no way around that I can see. The only adjustment that I can see is shorter cables out of each end of that adapter. Am I missing something really obvious here?

But more importantly...and as a result of tinkering around on the mobo...

I was able to do the following, though, which has gotten the Jaz recognized by both SCSI BIOS and NT without any crashes. I disconnected the 68 pin cable on the mobo, which goes up to the scsi hdd and cd, and enabled tremination on the mobo adapter. During bootup only the Jaz is recognized as its now the only online device. Here's the confusing part... SCSI BIOS DOES NOT INSTALL! NT continues on to boot without problem. But I am now able to see/read/write successfully with the Jaz in NT. But without the SCSI BIOS installed how is this possible? And why doesn't the BIOS install in the first place without the 68 pin devices online?

This excercise seems to point to a problem on the 68 pin cable not allowing NT to boot when the Jaz is connected. I now have more faith that a separate host adapter card for the Jaz would work. But having the SCSI BIOS not install yet a scsi device appearing to function properly without the BIOS is perplexing.
