You must NOT correct everyone around here because your are in error.

The movie you speak of was originally released as Quatermass and the Pit by the BBC (the final installment of the Quatermass series). It starred Brian Donlevy as Quatermass.

In 1966 it was remade and released in theaters as Five Million Years to Earth by Hammer Films, Inc. and starred Andrew Keir as Quatermass.

X, the Unknown was also a Hammer Film released about 1956 or 1957. It starred Dean Jagger and a lump of animated radioactive mud. X lived deep in the Earth's crust and was drawn to the surface to feed on sources that emitted radioactivity (such as isotopes stored in hospitals, nuclear power plants, nuclear research stations, etc.) Leo McKern was in the supporting cast.

Please get your facts straight before "correcting" people.

It DID happen. Suspect anyone who orders a Grasshopper at your neighborhood bar...

It was a crashed spaceship from millions of years ago containing the remains of long extinct martians who resembled 5-ft tall grasshoppers.

These beings were superior intellectually and they created a few super-humans to breed among the rest of us mere mortals and the lucky few humans today who are descendants posess kinetic powers.

It could happen.
