You know... there was a very wierd case of something like this out here (SF - where else) a while ago... too long to dig up the info on the web I'm afraid.

The mother had her son taken away because she made him sit out on the sidewalk with a sign that said "I'm a stupid pig" - or something like that. He was around 12? Whoever the authorities were deemed this "abuse" and removed him from the home.

The point being "authorities" can take kids away for all kinds of reasons.

BTW I'm not quite sure but corporal punishment might be illegal in Oakland now...

James, I am not trying to redefine the issue..I moved the issue to the worst possible scenario..Parents who publicly spank, or otherwise humiliate their children have emotional problems that need to be addressed..I agree with Cobalt Blue that foster homes are not always the best answer, to take a child who loves their parents and move them into another home is very damaging emotionally to both the parent and child..particularly when the
Parents acted in anger and it was not an ongoing issue..
