America Online and Sandpiper Expand Alliance to Provide High-Quality Content Experience to Internet Users AOL to Become a Customer of Sandpiper's Content Delivery Service THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 1999--Sandpiper Networks, Inc., the leading provider of comprehensive content delivery solutions, and America Online, Inc., the world's leading interactive services company, today announced that AOL has extended its current agreement with Sandpiper by becoming a customer of Sandpiper's Footprint(SM) content delivery service. As part of the new agreement, Sandpiper is also providing guaranteed payments to AOL for continued presence of Sandpiper servers within the AOL network. By using Sandpiper's award-winning content delivery service, AOL can further ensure the highest levels of performance and reliability for its global multi-brand audience. This agreement follows on the strategic alliance established between the two companies earlier this year. Launched last year, the Footprint service speeds Web site performance up to 10 times by distributing content from a worldwide network of more than 400 servers, putting Web content closer to the consumer and shortening the delivery path. Sandpiper has deployed Footprint servers in more than 20 networks worldwide. The Footprint network will have more than 1,200 servers worldwide by year-end.
