America Online and Sandpiper Expand Alliance to Provide
High-Quality Content Experience to Internet Users

AOL to Become a Customer of Sandpiper's Content Delivery Service

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 1999--Sandpiper Networks, Inc., the leading
provider of comprehensive content delivery solutions, and America Online, Inc., the world's leading interactive
services company, today announced that AOL has extended its current agreement with Sandpiper by
becoming a customer of Sandpiper's Footprint(SM) content delivery service.

As part of the new agreement, Sandpiper is also providing guaranteed payments to AOL for continued
presence of Sandpiper servers within the AOL network. By using Sandpiper's award-winning content delivery
service, AOL can further ensure the highest levels of performance and reliability for its global multi-brand
audience. This agreement follows on the strategic alliance established between the two companies earlier this
year.

Launched last year, the Footprint service speeds Web site performance up to 10 times by distributing content
from a worldwide network of more than 400 servers, putting Web content closer to the consumer and
shortening the delivery path. Sandpiper has deployed Footprint servers in more than 20 networks worldwide.
The Footprint network will have more than 1,200 servers worldwide by year-end.

"America Online has always focused on making the Internet fast and easy to use for AOL and CompuServe
members and visitors," said Joe Barrett, vice president of Internet Operations at AOL.

"This agreement with Sandpiper builds on our commitment to ensuring the highest levels of performance for
AOL and CompuServe members as well as our Web-based users, and leveraging technologies that truly
enhance our rich media offerings. We are looking forward to continuing the strong relationship AOL has built
with Sandpiper."

"We have a very close and strategic relationship with AOL, and are thrilled that AOL has chosen Sandpiper to
help deliver its Internet properties," said Leo Spiegel, president and CEO of Sandpiper Networks. "Content
Delivery Networks are quickly becoming a critical piece of the Internet infrastructure. We look forward to
working with AOL to further build on our alliance, and to continue to make the Internet faster and more
enjoyable for everyone to use."
