I agree it used to be a group effort- but most of us do not have extended family anymore- and people doing the job merely for money aren't very good. I know there are some people in child care who do it because they love children- but most people just want the check- and according to statistics people who work in the "industry" tend to move through it quickly so you don't have lots of highly skilled people in it. Add to that the fact that many of the people in it are woefully undereducated and you are leaving your children with people you wouldn't hire to perform an office job. Not a very good situation.
