know from first hand experience that the dot coms don't hire these consultants, instead they pay a salary of about, oh, 80-90K + stock for the same level staff that is 200$/hr at an established firm. Now in the case of amzn with their stock appreciation of course the amzn employees are making much more than the consultants would at B&N. But in general at all the other moderate dot coms the compensation is about the same. You won't see the PW consultants on B&N's payroll ether. Liz, Compared to Amazon, technical consultants as a percentage of total employees is far less at a brick and mortar chain. Also, the stock options given to brick and mortar technical employees are far less generous. Simply put, Amazon is way over paying considering they are losing money at more that a million dollars per day. Amazon loses a bit more than $57,000 per hour 24 hours per day seven days a week.
