Caldera is owned/operated by Ray Noorda (of fame with Novell) and his $1 Billion dollar purchase of WordPerfect.

You mentioned about Corel's share price being supported by hot air. The Linux craze, just like the internet craze, is being supported by hype and potential. They are high-risk investments.

Like you I do see similarities between Linux's 'acceptance' of Corel and Sun's Java 'acceptance' of Corel. They desperately need success stories and products to support the growth potential of Linux that they wish to propagate. Only time will tell.
